Maybe I'm the only one who faces this.
Maybe I'm the only one who gets so upset about this.
Maybe I'm the only one who loses her cool completely over this.
But, maybe I'm not!
What is "this"?
Messy kids rooms!!
I get so tired of saying, "Is your room clean?" "Go clean your room." "Have you picked up your room?" etc.
Makes me crazy!! And with summer just around the corner, I am determined NOT to spend time on this every day when we could be enjoying so many other things.
So, I have instituted a new standard for room cleanliness. I actually "stole" the idea from my wonderful Aunt Mollianne.
The standard for Casiday's room is ...
How my room looks at 10 a.m. her room must look at noon.
So, if it's a crazy day and my room is messy - it's okay that hers is too. I think that will help all of us be more conscious of our clutter. And it makes a pretty good rule. So, that's my tip for the week.
Here's to less nagging, fussing, arguing, and whining!! Bring on the summer fun!!!

What a great idea. Your kids will never grumble that you aren't following your own advice. I like it.
Fabulous idea!!! Perfect first tip...

This is a great idea and I would love to make this a standard in my house, but the master is not only a tiny master...it is also the location for the family hamper and all the clean laundry that need to be sorted, folded and ironed. Sad I know. And I am determined to work on setting a better example for the kids. But we do have a 30 min block of time after dinner where they have to get their rooms clean. I set the timer and they work together to get the job done. And their rooms are always clean by the end of the day.
Thanks y'all! Kids rooms are just the hardest thing ... so frustrating!!
I like to close the door to my daughter's room. She does have to keep her floor clean and I help her every once in a while to do a major clean. She is not like me and likes to collect EVERYTHING.
Paula, my daughter is the same way about keeping EVERYTHING. We have always had a pretty strict "one in/one out" rule about new things. But she saves every piece of paper that she has written and drawn on. I think I have figured out a solution to that though that satisfies her ... maybe that should be next week's WFMW post ... hmm....
This is a toughie, isn't it? What works for our family is what I call "vacuum ready." When I ask if their room is clean, the answer is yes if the bed is made and the floors are clear. I don't worry too much about what's in the closet and on top of the desk. (However, every few months we tackle those messes as well.)
I think your idea is wonderful, and it just might work here.
That's a great idea!
This really was a lifesaver for me when my children were in elementary school. I needed order and their idea of 'clean' was so different from mine. Funny...now that I have grandchildren who come every weekend, I really don't care so much. I suppose my priorities have changed. I'm glad that my old idea has been revived!
